Some things are just worth celebrating. This year, our beloved Dickinson Park turns 100 years old!
What began as a bramble-filled lot donated to the VIA, has become the centerpiece of our small town. For a century, this beautiful space has served as our community’s gathering place. In the early years, one would find musical performances, picnics, and beautiful gardens. More recently, the park hosts city sponsored events like Movies in the Park and a Farmer’s Market. The park also provides a delightful space for watching local parades and an occasional wedding under the gazebo. On April 29th, our club will sponsor a new reason to gather in this special place.
In partnership with the Orange City Historic Preservation Board, the VIA will host Art in the Park. The hallmark of this event will be a Plein Air Paint Out. This open-air painting is where a painter reproduces the actual visual conditions seen at the time of the painting. Artists will bring their own materials to create scenes of Dickinson Park and other historic landmarks of Orange City. Our goal is to bring in artists from all over our area to create wonderful works of art depicting our quaint little town.
We hope to also have local artists set up booths to display and sell their work. We are seeking sponsors for a kid’s painting area so families may also participate in the event. We are also looking for local musicians who would perform during the event. And of course, we cannot have a birthday party unless there will be cake!
Ladies, we cannot do this without your help. If you have an interest in supporting this event, please let us know. This event will be free and open to the public.
